Pupil mentoring
The participants at the tutoring groups are identical with the ones from the Football School. Before each training they have to study. The ones who don’t do their homework can’t play football.
What sounds very harsh and heartless works in reality perfect. After a certain acceleration time the kids and adolescents have accepted this offer and they realise the purpose. They don’t come with schoolbag to the Center anymore.
Even more enthusiastic about this offer are the parents, the teachers and the directors of the local schools. We visit the parents regularly in order to interview them. We analyse these interviews in order to improve our projects. Teachers and directors are full of praise because their number of school dropouts and pupils who have to repeat decreased. They invite the staff of Delta Cultura regularly to participate in the skill enhancement of their staff.
Thanks Football for Hope Movement, whose funding finances a employee in the area of pupil mentoring the center can offer more than just help in doing homework. We take the grades of the children and like this we know their particular strengths and weaknesses and can interfere in time.
We organise this offer in small tutoring groups. With big success. The improvement of the children in these small groups show the importance of personal attention some of them need.
Attention which their teachers in school can’t give in a classroom of up to 40 pupils.
This attention also gives us the possibility to get to know personal problems and in case we can accord more help. Our cooperation with ICCA (Capeverdean Institute for children and adolescents) and their trained psychologists leaves us with good opportunities in this area.
